Benefits of ACIS Hosting
ACIS Conference are planned 12 months prior to their running in the first week of December. ACIS Hosts provide the primary academic directions for the conference usually aligned with their own research interests, and drawn upon local IS and agnate discipline researchers, the physical locations provided by one or more campuses, along with local expertise that can help plan out the conference (accommodation, social events, possible tourism opportunities especially for overseas visitors) as well as local volunteers that can assist in running it.
The costs of running the conference and financial risks of doing so are entirely borne by the Australasian Association for Information Systems (AAIS) which is the manager for the conference sequence. AAIS maintains financial controls and ordering but liaises with the host in helping to develop a particular conference instance. There are a number of benefits for Departments/Schools/Faculty/University in acting as a host for the ACIS Conference Hosts:
- exposure of local researchers and staff to members of the broader Australasian IS
- exposure of research directions, research centres, research teams and research ideas to an international audience,
- understanding of the research infrastructure, research organisation and research interests of the host institutions,
- enabling upskilling of academic, technical and general staff working on the administration of a small but none-the-less international conference,
- providing exposure to local senior administrators who often open aspects of the conference (eg. Doctoral Consortium, Industry Days and the main conference itself) to an international audience,
- cultivating an appreciation of the identity and organisation of the host institution,
- showcasing the physical facilities of the institution including teaching and learning spaces where the conference is held to a local, regional and international audience, and
- promoting the location, environment and culture where the institution sits.
The Call for Expressions of Interest to Host ACIS explains the different types of hosting and conference modalities. An ACIS EoI Template is available for completion and submission to the AAIS. Feel free to discuss hosting ACIS by directly contacting the AAIS President at president@aaisnet.org or the AAIS Secretary secretary@aaisnet.org if your institution is interested in hosting ACIS.
