The AAIS is currently experimenting with the development of the AAIS Preprint Service, a Green Open Access Repository for several reasons. The first reason for doing this is that community members may wish to publish academic content of various kinds that are freely available to the entire Australasian IS Community. The standing of the AAIS as an active and well-respected Chapter enables this work to be exposed to a global audience.
The second reason for developing the AAIS Preprint Series is that the AAIS is developing the capacity to run Virtual Communities, considered essential for the AAIS to meet its obligations as a large multinational chapter of the AIS. The AAIS Preprint Service will facilitate experimentation into newer publishing modalities that can support the activities of our Virtual Communities, for example Open Reviewing.
The third reason for the AAIS Preprint Series involves the training and upskilling of researchers and doctoral students who may wish to be involved in the publication of the AAIS Preprint Series. The AAIS Preprints will be a way for skills development in reviewing and editing.
The AAIS Preprints will act as an incubator for those wishing to join the Editorial Team or become involved in the publication duties associated with AJIS.
The fourth reason for the AAIS Preprint Series is that AAIS also has a need to publish ongoing materials about its activities of interest to its membership, and potentially useful to the AIS and its Chapters globally. Potential publications include various Charters and Roadmaps, along with DC Consortia Proceedings that advertise the research work of our emerging researchers.
