AAIS Website v3 (2024)

The current version of the AAIS Website is designed to be a comprehensive description of our activities and services. It is also designed to be a point of access to our services as well as a provider of information about them.

The dedicated ACIS website is being expanded to accommodate the authentication required for the implementation of our mail services and virtual communities.

Mail Services: IS-AUS and IS-HODS v2 (2024)

Two email Lists have served the community well. The IS-AUS list is open to all IS Researchers within the AAIS Jurisdiction and an invitation-only IS-HODS list that serves Professors and Heads of Discipline. For several reasons, these lists are scheduled to be modernised over the next 12 months.

These list services are being moved to an AAIS-controlled domain, which will allow us to have better control of the service and better security while improving and integrating the offerings of these lists.

Some of the technical improvements in the medium term involve a move away from general emails-based message forwarding to users, being able to tailor the kind of alerts and information through a digest-based messaging service. Multiple list messages are provided to registered users according to their topic preferences. These multiple messages are rolled up into a digest delivered at regular intervals. Users can view or ignore stories presented as links rather than having every individual message pushed to them, regardless of whether they are relevant or not.

These lists will also form the basis for authentication, uniquely identifying members of the Australasian IS Community. Authentication is the basis for creating advanced services like the AAIS Virtual Communities.

ACIS Permanent Website v3 (2024)

In conjunction with the ACIS 2022 hosts, the AAIS designed and implemented the first permanent ACIS Web Site using WordPress and hosted it in its own subdomain. For ACIS 2023, an updated Version 2 of the ACIS Web Site was used for Victoria University Wellington (VUW), New Zealand. Both of these versions used default templates similar to those used on AAIS’s own website. Version 3 of this ACIS Website, that will be used for subsequent ACIS Conferences, employs professional event website templates and responsive design enabling it to be properly rendered on mobile devices.

There are many advantages to having a dedicated ACIS website. Some of them are:

  • In the lead-up to the conference, the ACIS Permanent Website provides standard information about the conference, registration, accommodation, travel and so on
  • during the conference, the website can function as a personalised event manager for conference delegates,
  • conference hosts save money by not having to fund, register and administer a site for a given year,
  • ACIS conference information can be reliably archived, assisting in the development of a historical record of the conference sequence itself,
  • previous years’ archives can help organisers reuse persistent information, for example, standard paper formatting guidelines, the organisation of Tracks, the Doctoral Consortia and so on, and
  • the technical knowledge about websites can be pooled between the AAIS and the conference hosts, improving all websites over time.
