The AAIS Digital Health Research Virtual Community, in collaboration with the Australasian Journal of Information Systems (AJIS) and the Australasian Conference on Information Systems (ACIS), invites you to participate in a dynamic and practical AAIS Reviewer Development Workshop designed to strengthen reviewing capabilities and deepen understanding of editorial and conference expectations. This is a fully online mode for the workshop.
This workshop is ideal for Information Systems researchers and early-career researchers, seeking to enhance their scholarly contribution and professional development. Reviewing is not only a gatekeeping function, but also a vital part of shaping research quality and building a researcher’s profile. Join us to explore how reviewing can support your career and contribute to the integrity of academic publishing.
Privacy Note: These workshops will be recorded. Sequences will be used in the development of future courseware. However, any used media from these workshops will be strictly anonymised.
Requirements
Expectation: you will be assigned to review a paper before the workshop
Outcome: Develop skills to contribute as a reviewer to the academic information systems community.
The AAIS will certify your achievement upon completion of review and participation in the workshop.
Workshop Agenda
Session 1: Welcome & Context
Session 2: Senior Scholar’s Presentation or Panel Discussion
Facilitated by Alex Richter and including senior scholars with considerable editing and reviewing experience, this session explores the importance of reviewing, ethical responsibilities, and career impact.
Session 3: Editorial Insights
Presentations by AJIS EIC and ACIS chairs on review goals, processes, and examples of effective reviews.
Session 4: Breakout Review Practice
Senior Editors and Participants will discuss pre-assigned papers in small groups, share feedback strategies, and align with editorial expectations.
Session 5: Reflection & Debrief
Group insights, editor responses, and discussion on ethical review practices, including the role of AI-generated reviews.
Session 6: Closing
