Welcome to the AAIS Digital Health Virtual Community

We warmly invite you to join our Digital Health Virtual Community, a vibrant and collegial group uniting digital health researchers from the Information Systems (IS) community across Australasia. Together, we foster collaboration, innovation, and a strong sense of community as we explore the exciting developments in artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, digital twins, IoT, along with other established and emerging digital technologies transforming healthcare in our region.

About Our Community

Healthcare is rapidly evolving, driven by groundbreaking advancements in AI, generative AI, digital twins, IoT, and other established and emerging digital technologies. These innovations are reshaping the way we approach healthcare, emphasising human-centred and impactful research that brings economic, health, social, and human benefits.

Healthcare professionals, policymakers, and consumers are embracing digital technologies to provide integrated and seamless wellness and health services—from individual patient care to community health initiatives. As digital health researchers, we delve into areas including, but not limited to:

  • Applications of AI, Machine Learning and other emerging technologies: Exploring how AI and machine learning and other emerging technologies can improve diagnostics, treatment plans, and patient outcomes.

  • Digital Health Literacy: Enhancing the ability of consumers, health workers, and policymakers to effectively use digital health tools.
  • Ethical and Social Considerations: Addressing the ethical, legal, and social issues in digital and AI-enabled healthcare research and practice.
  • Patient Empowerment: Developing smart health systems that empower patients, including marginalised communities, to take an active role in their health and wellness.
  • Telehealth and Remote Care: Advancing technologies that enable remote healthcare services, improving accessibility and convenience.
  • Wearables and IoT Devices: Utilising wearable technology and the Internet of Things to monitor health and gather data.
  • Big Data and Analytics: Leveraging big data to inform healthcare decisions and policymaking.
  • Healthcare Resilience: Using digital technologies to strengthen responses to epidemics and emergency management and enhance overall healthcare resilience.

Our Activities

We meet monthly on Zoom to share and discuss research, fostering an environment of continuous learning and collaboration. These meetings provide a platform to exchange ideas, receive feedback, and stay updated on the latest developments in digital health.
We are proud of our significant and ongoing contributions to the ACIS Digital Health Track, the Australasian Journal of Information Systems (AJIS), and other high-quality research outlets. Our members actively participate in these research forums, helping to advance the field of digital health research.
