The Australasian Association for Information Systems (AAIS) was formed in 2001 and is one of the oldest AIS Chapters.
The AAIS is a multinational chapter within AIS Region 3 (see the map insert of AIS Regions) representing Australia, New Zealand and many nations in Oceania, 19 countries in all. It spans the sixth largest region in the world, 8.5m square km and 44.5 million people- covering 1/2 of the Southern and Eastern hemispheres, see Member Countries.
It is also a jurisdiction that has a large wealth disparity and a wide range in Socio-Economic Status (SES) across countries in the region, see UN Human Development Indices (HDI), while also possessing considerable cultural and linguistic diversity.
