2022 Winners Announced

We warmly congratulate the winners of the 2023 IS Champions Award.

The ACPHIS Interim Committee members (Deborah Bunker, Marc Adam, Lubna Alam and Raj Gururajan) are the winners of the 2022 IS Community Champion Award for “the reregistration of ACPHIS”

Joining the past winner, Rodney J Clarke 2021 Inaugural IS Community Champion Award for “exemplary support of the Australasian IS Community”.

This award is to recognise Information Systems (IS) scholars who play a developmental role in our region’s Information Systems community through leadership and service. The award honours IS academics who demonstrate the best of volunteerism, impact, leadership, and a sense of caring and responsibility for others.

A small plaque will be awarded in appreciation. In the event of a team win there will be one plaque and certificates issued to all team members.

Eligibility – Recipient: individual or team

Recipients may be currently employed or retired Australasian Information Systems (or related discipline) academic(s) with evidence of sustained service to the community through either leadership roles in Australasian entities such as ACPHIS, PHIS-NZ, AAIS, AJIS, ACIS or through other service roles that have an impact on our region’s Information Systems community.

Nominations: Australasian academics are invited to nominate/self-nominate an individual or team that meet the above eligibility criteria. The selection panel may also nominate and recommend an individual or team in the event of no eligible nomination is received.

Important Dates

Applications Close: Friday 17^th November 2023

Outcomes announced:  expected to be at the Australasian Conference on Information Systems dinner, which is usually held in early December. The winner will also be notified in writing.

Selection panel membership:

Each year, the AAIS Executive will appoint a chair and at least two panel members to process the applications and make the recommendation to the AAIS Executive. The chair will be an esteemed member of the Australasian IS community. The other members will be academics from the Australasian region. Where possible, at least one academic from a different country within the Australasian region will serve as the appointed chair. If appropriate, the award winner from the previous year will serve on the panel or one member if the award was to a team.

Nominations:

Nominees must meet the selection criteria. Only one person or team can be awarded this prize in any given year. If no suitable individual or team are nominated in any given year, the award may not be made.

Required Attachments

Selection is competitive, so please provide the required documents by the closing date for the application to be considered.

The following attachments are required:

• a statement from the nominator as to why they believe that the person or team they are nominating should be considered for the award. This should be no longer than one page and address the specific selection criteria.
• a signed and fully completed application form.

Nominations are to be sent via email to the AAIS President and AAIS Secretary (please see the AAIS Executive page for details of email addresses) for distribution to the Selection Panel. All components of the nomination, as listed above, need to be submitted electronically. The files can be either Word (.doc/docx) documents or pdf files.

The Selection criteria: The panel will assess the nominations on the following criteria:

• eligibility
• sustained service to the community, and its impact, through either leadership roles in Australasian entities such as ACPHIS, PHIS-NZ, AAIS, AJIS, ACIS or other service roles that have an impact on our region’s Information Systems community.

Award background:

The award was introduced at the 2021 conference by the conference organisers.

It was very well received by the community. ACIS 2021 committee and AAIS agreed that the award would be continued into the future.
